The Beginner's Leaflet
I have written a short leaflet for complete beginners on how to play
Go,
available as a PDF file.
It is designed to be printed using both
sides of a single piece of A4 paper, which is then folded down the
middle.
So when you view the PDF file go
leaflet colour.pdf, you see two pages on a single sheet: 4 and
1, followed by 2 and 3.
Version 36 (10/01/10)
Please feel free to copy and distribute this leaflet for non-profit making purposes.Download: go leaflet colour.pdf (PDF format, 210K)
For best results, set 'Page Scaling' to None, turn 'Auto-Rotate and Center' off, and turn 'Choose Paper Source by PDF page size' on (if you have those options)
Download: go leaflet colour.zip (Zipped MS Publisher 2003 format, 215K)
Be careful when printing double-sided - on some sytems you should
rotate
the paper before putting it back into the printer, and on others you
should
not.
Due to space limitations, I have used a counting system equivalent,
I believe,
to ancient counting.
I am not suggesting people who already know how to
play
Go change their rules to these, it is simply that trying to explain any
other counting system takes up too much space.
If anyone ever says to
me "I learnt Go using
your leaflet and I think its rules are wrong," then I will be pleased
to know
that this leaflet has taught somebody about Go.
